La Provence in Niederdorf

In the center of it all, and yet wonderfully quiet. Between the charming houses of idyllic Nägelihof in Zurich’s Old Town, you might even wonder: Am I in Provence? The answer: Well, almost – you’re at Mère Catherine’s, a restaurant that boasts Provençal charm and dishes. And because the register office is located right on the Limmat, you don’t have to go farther than our gallery to celebrate your wedding. Or reserve our salon for your next business meeting.

Le menu

You'll find a variety of seasonal specialties on our menu, rounded out with classic Provençal dishes. A large selection of fish and various meat dishes, as well as purely vegetarian creations. Et les fromages et desserts – heavenly! All accompanied by fine wines and spirits. From Monday to Friday, we serve a lunch menu with fish, meat and vegetarian options.

Our house wines from the Provence

The cooperative winery Les Vignerons du Roy René was founded in 1922 by Jules Reynaud, Mayor of Lambesc. Lambesc is located near the university town of Aix-en-Provence, in the southern French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d Azur. The cooperative includes 120 winemakers who cultivate their vineyards with dedication and achieve excellent results under controlled cultivation. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate and the most recent vinification, the wines of Les Vignerons du Roy René are popular in the region and in various export markets in Europe and overseas.

Classic "Moules et frites" or the special of the day

In contrast to the oyster, the mussels or oysters are preferably eaten cooked, but also baked, au gratin or roasted. We serve mussels from the Netherlands, because the quality during the seasons stays on a very hight level.

Standing around the bar at Le Philosophe, you will inevitably find yourself getting to know your neighbour, maybe over an apéro à la française, that is, a glass of good wine and a small appetizer. The cozy bar with its sophisticated wine and drinks menu is the perfect place to chat and philosophize.

Voilà, our “tartare allez-retour”!

For those who want to read their newspaper leisurely, we open at 11.00. If you are craving a delicious sandwich, come and have lunch with us. Our specialty is “Tartare Le Philosophe allez-retour” – beef tartare that gets a quick pan searing on both sides. And for a larger selection, simply choose from the Mère Catherine menu, our sister restaurant right next door.
